Ever since I saw the movie Julie & Julia years ago, I have been obsessed with the idea of cooking through an entire cookbook. For our wedding, my sweet mother-in-law gifted us the Betty Crocker Cookbook, Newlywed Edition. If you don’t have this book, or any Betty Crocker cookbook, please, for your sake, go buy one. It is amazing and teaches you absolutely anything you could ever need to know about cooking. I am in love with this book.
I could go on forever!
Anyway, back to the topic, I decided to challenge myself to cook every recipe over the course of the next year. I’m looking forward to every thing I will learn along the way. I’ve never been much of a cook. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it, but I don’t find myself in the kitchen every night whipping up dinner from odd and end ingredients I find in the cabinets. The kitchen intimidates me! I’m using this year as an opportunity to learn cooking skills and expand my child like palate (I’ll order a kids cheese pizza at a high end restaurant).
My husband thinks I’m crazy and doesn’t believe that I’m actually trying it. I think I’m a little crazy myself, but, the good kind. There’s a good kind of crazy, right?
I’ve already prepared by deep cleaning my fridge, scheduling the first month’s worth of recipes, and ordering a week’s worth of groceries off Walmart pickup (my first time to try it and I’m so excited!!).
I start tomorrow with Huevos Rancheros. I figured that’d get my husband on board since I’ll use chorizo, which he LOVES.
Wish me luck and I’ll keep it updated!
The best cookbook in the world. Do yourself a favor and buy one.
